TM Operation

ThetwodifferenttypesofTMsofferadiverserangeoffunctions,fromsimpletimingoperations

toPWMsignalgeneration.ThekeytounderstandinghowtheTMoperatesistoseeitintermsof

afreerunningcounterwhosevalueisthencomparedwiththevalueofpre-programmedinternal

comparators.Whenthefreerunningcounterhasthesamevalueasthepre-programmedcomparator,

knownasacomparematchsituation,aTMinterruptsignalwillbegeneratedwhichcanclearthe

counterandperhapsalsochangetheconditionoftheTMoutputpin.TheinternalTMcounteris

drivenbyauserselectableclocksource,whichcanbeaninternalclockoranexternalpin.

TM Clock Source

TheclocksourcewhichdrivesthemaincounterineachTMcanoriginatefromvarioussources.

TheselectionoftherequiredclocksourceisimplementedusingtheTnCK2~TnCK0bitsintheTM

controlregisters.TheclocksourcecanbearatioofthesystemclockfSYSortheinternalhighclock

fH,thefTBCclocksourceortheexternalTCKnpin.TheTCKnpinclocksourceisusedtoallowan

externalsignaltodrivetheTMasanexternalclocksourceorforeventcounting.

TM Interrupts

ThetwodifferenttypesofTMshavetwointernalinterrupts,theinternalcomparatorAorcomparator

P,whichgenerateaTMinterruptwhenacomparematchconditionoccurs.WhenaTMinterruptis

generated,itcanbeusedtoclearthecounterandalsotochangethestateoftheTMoutputpin.
