Oscillator Overview Inadditiontobeingthesourceofthemainsystemclocktheoscillatorsalsoprovideclocksources fortheWatchdogTimerandTimeBaseInterrupts.Externaloscillatorsrequiringsomeexternal componentsaswellasfullyintegratedinternaloscillators,requiringnoexternalcomponents, areprovidedtoformawiderangeofbothfastandslowsystemoscillators.Alloscillatoroptions areselectedthroughtheconfigurationoptions.Thehigherfrequencyoscillatorsprovidehigher performancebutcarrywithitthedisadvantageofhigherpowerrequirements,whiletheopposite isofcoursetrueforthelowerfrequencyoscillators.Withthecapabilityofdynamicallyswitching betweenfastandslowsystemclock,thedevicehastheflexibilitytooptimizetheperformance/ powerratio,afeatureespeciallyimportantinpowersensitiveportableapplications. Theactualsourceclockusedforeachofthehighspeedoscillatorischosenviaconfiguration options.Thefrequencyoftheslowspeedorhighspeedsystemclockisalsodeterminedusingthe HLCLKbitandCKS2~CKS0bitsintheSMODregister.Notethattwooscillatorselectionsmustbe madenamelyonehighspeedandonelowspeedsystemoscillators.Itisnotpossibletochooseano- oscillatorselectionforeitherthehighorlowspeedoscillator.TheOSC1andOSC2pinsareusedto connecttheexternalcomponentsfortheexternalcrystal. |
