IP Unicast Routing Example
Ports o, n, and m are connected to Router A3, Host A1, and Host A2. These stations are included in an
IP subnet associated with VLAN 1 and connected to the router by router leg 1. Router leg 1’s MAC
address is shown.
Ports a, b, and c are connected to Router B2, Host B1, and Host B3. These stations are included in an IP
subnet associated with VLAN 2 and connected to the router by router leg 2.
The router leg MAC addresses in the example offsets the base MAC address by the respective router
leg’s VMID.
Traffic destined within a subnet is L2-forwarded. For example, traffic from Host A1 to Host A2 is L2
forwarded.
