Watchdog Timer
TheWatchdogTimerisprovidedtopreventprogrammalfunctionsorsequencesfromjumpingto
unknownlocations,duetocertainuncontrollableexternaleventssuchaselectricalnoise.
Watchdog Timer Clock Source
TheWatchdogTimerclocksourceisprovidedbytheinternalclock,fS,whichisinturnsuppliedby
oneoftwosourcesselectedbyconfigurationoption:fSUBorfSYS/4.ThefSUBclockcanbesourced
fromeithertheLXTorLIRCoscillators,againchosenviaaconfigurationoption.TheLIRCinternal
oscillatorhasanapproximateperiodof32kHzatasupplyvoltageof5V.
However,itshouldbenotedthatthisspecifiedinternalclockperiodcanvarywithVDD,temperature
andprocessvariations.TheLXToscillatorissuppliedbyanexternal32.768kHzcrystal.Theother
WatchdogTimerclocksourceoptionisthefSYS/4clock.TheWatchdogTimerclocksourcecan
originatefromitsowninternalLIRCoscillator,theLXToscillatororfSYS/4.Itisdividedbyavalue
of28to218,usingtheWS2~WS0bitsintheWDTCregistertoobtaintherequiredWatchdogTimer
time-outperiod.
Watchdog Timer Control Register
Asingleregister,WDTC,controlstherequiredtimeoutperiodaswellastheenableresetoperation.
Thisregistertogetherwithseveralconfigurationoptionscontroltheoveralloperationofthe
WatchdogTimer.
