Programming Considerations

TheTMCounterRegistersandtheCapture/CompareCCRAregisters,beingeither10-bitor16-bit,

allhavealowandhighbytestructure.Thehighbytescanbedirectlyaccessed,butasthelowbytes

canonlybeaccessedviaaninternal8-bitbuffer,readingorwritingtotheseregisterpairsmustbe

carriedoutinaspecificway.Theimportantpointtonoteisthatdatatransfertoandfromthe8-bit

bufferanditsrelatedlowbyteonlytakesplacewhenawriteorreadoperationtoitscorresponding

highbyteisexecuted.

AstheCCRAregisterisimplementedinthewayshowninthefollowingdiagramandaccessing

theregisteriscarriedoutinaspecificwaydescribedabove,itisrecommendedtousethe“MOV”

instructiontoaccesstheCCRAlowbyteregister,namedTMxAL,usingthefollowingaccess

procedures.AccessingtheCCRAlowbyteregisterwithoutfollowingtheseaccessprocedureswill

resultinunpredictablevalues.
