Capture Input Mode

ToselectthismodebitsPTnM1andPTnM0inthePTMnC1registershouldbesetto01

respectively.Thismodeenablesexternalsignalstocaptureandstorethepresentvalueoftheinternal

counterandcanthereforebeusedforapplicationssuchaspulsewidthmeasurements.Theexternal

signalissuppliedonthePTPnIorPTCKnpinwhichisselectedusingthePTnCAPTSbitinthe

PTMnC1register.Theinputpinactiveedgecanbeeitherarisingedge,afallingedgeorbothrising

andfallingedges;theactiveedgetransitiontypeisselectedusingthePTnIO1andPTnIO0bitsin

thePTMnC1register.ThecounterisstartedwhenthePTnONbitchangesfromlowtohighwhichis

initiatedusingtheapplicationprogram.

WhentherequirededgetransitionappearsonthePTPnIorPTCKnpinthepresentvalueinthe

counterwillbelatchedintotheCCRAregistersandaPTMninterruptgenerated.Irrespectiveof

whateventsoccuronthePTPnIorPTCKnpin,thecounterwillcontinuetofreerununtilthePTnON

bitchangesfromhightolow.WhenaCCRPcomparematchoccursthecounterwillresetbackto

zero;inthiswaytheCCRPvaluecanbeusedtocontrolthemaximumcountervalue.WhenaCCRP

comparematchoccursfromComparatorP,aPTMninterruptwillalsobegenerated.Countingthe

numberofoverflowinterruptsignalsfromtheCCRPcanbeausefulmethodinmeasuringlongpulse

widths.ThePTnIO1andPTnIO0bitscanselecttheactivetriggeredgeonthePTPnIorPTCKnpin

tobearisingedge,fallingedgeorbothedgetypes.IfthePTnIO1andPTnIO0bitsarebothsethigh,

thennocaptureoperationwilltakeplaceirrespectiveofwhathappensonthePTPnIorPTCKnpin,

howeveritmustbenotedthatthecounterwillcontinuetorun.

AsthePTPnIorPTCKnpinispinsharedwithotherfunctions,caremustbetakenifthePTMnisin

theCaptureInputMode.Thisisbecauseifthepinissetupasanoutput,thenanytransitionsonthis

pinmaycauseaninputcaptureoperationtobeexecuted.ThePTnCCLR,PTnOCandPTnPOLbits

arenotusedinthisMode.
