GENERAL CALL

The general call is a method the Master device can use

to communicate with all other Slave devices. In a Multi-

Master application, the other Master devices are

operating in Slave mode. The general call address has

two documented formats. These are shown in

Figure B-11.

The I2C specification documents three 7-bit command

bytes.

The I2C specification does not allow ‘00000000’ (00h)

in the second byte. Also, the ‘00000100’ and

‘00000110’ functionalities are defined by the specifica-

tion. Lastly, a data byte with a ‘1’ in the LSb indicates a

“Hardware General Call”.
